Diabetes mellitus is a chronic disease and cannot be cured. Diet, exercising, and blood sugar monitoring is highly demanded in treating diabetic accompanied with appropriate use of drugs (insulin for type 1 diabetic and some oral medication for type 2 diabetic). Complication is something that we should alert ourselves in case we have diabetic. Knowledge about diabetes would be highly beneficial for diabetic people since it would be easier during treatment if diabetic people monitoring their own blood sugar level and thus would reduce the risk in having any kind of complication which might cause death. Several tips might be useful for those who want to prevent diabetes.

Type 1 diabetes concern with malfunction of pancreas and commonly found in children and adolescence. This type of diabetes would need daily injection of insulin and thus we don’t know how to prevent it. This kind of diabetes might also found in older people who have damaged pancreas due to heavy drinking. Type 2 diabetes might be prevented in some cases. Controlling weight to normal or near-normal level by healthy diet is one way in doing it. Regular exercise is crucial to prevention of type 2 diabetes. Low consumption on alcohol and smoke would be another way to prevent type 2 diabetes.

Another crucial way of type 2 diabetes prevention involved with lifestyle modification. Maintaining healthy diet with adequate amount of water and avoiding salt would be better to those who don’t want to suffer from diabetes. Healthy diet doesn’t mean that we should become vegetarian but it mainly consists of healthy food with balance nutrition. But the major rule for preventing diabetic is consistent in doing it. Only taking precaution once in a while won’t do you any good. Be consistent in maintaining healthy life and healthy lifestyle would probably useful in avoiding any kind of disease and not just diabetes.
